"Drink water, I want to drink water", along with the sound of the siren, a green teenager lay on a stretcher and made a weak request. The experience and intuition of the emergency doctor told him that things were far from simple. Subsequently, the teenager was sent to the emergency room at the fastest speed and underwent a series of tests such as blood gas analysis, biochemistry, and blood sugar. However, the results of the examination surprised everyone present: the pH value was 7.08, which was lower than the normal value of 7.35-7.45; the blood sugar was as high as 24.2, which was nearly 4 times the highest normal value; and the urine ketone reached an astonishing 4+. When these data are presented in front of doctors, a terrible condition emerges in front of medical staff-"ketoacidosis", if not treated in time, the consequences will be disastrous.
After initial rescue in the emergency room, the teenager was sent to the intensive care unit. Subsequently, a phone call from the laboratory further aggravated the conjecture of "ketoacidosis": triglycerides reached an astonishing 132mmol/L, 100 times the normal value! After discussion by experts, it was finally diagnosed as "ketoacidosis", an acute complication caused by diabetes, and another difficulty was placed in front of the medical staff. Ketoacidosis needs to be treated by measures such as blood perfusion and plasma exchange, and the amount of plasma reserved in the hospital is not enough to support the current needs of teenagers.
